Northern California Family Dog Rescue
We're dedicated to the proper care and socialization of our rescued animals and to making a great connection between dogs and humans! We know that families with children often have a difficult time adopting rescued and shelter dogs. So we've made it our special mission to select dogs that do well with with kids and adults. We encourage families with children to adopt rather than buy from a breeder!
Family Dog Rescue was founded in January 2010 by a group of people who have many years of experience with a wide variety of rescue and shelter organizations. An important part of our mission is to help families with children adopt dogs, instead of using breeders, as these families often have a difficult time adopting from municipal shelters because of restrictions required by the shelters. We rescue almost all types of dogs including bully breeds and we make it a point to provide appropriate veterinary care as well as proper socialization. We often take dogs who have medical issues, or are deaft or otherwise less than perfect"."
If you're interested in ADOPTING here are a few things you should know:
All our adoptions begin with a two week trial. You can return the dog for any reason during that period. It's important to us that you have time to make sure your chosen dog is a good fit.
Our adoption fee is sliding scale beginning at $300. Our fees go to support the cost of our program, much of which is veterinary care. It is expensive, so if you're able, we ask you to be generous.
We also offer a free veterinary visit at either Mission Pet Hospital or the S.F. SPCA. The SPCA also offers 50% off any services they recommend during that visit.
Our friends at S.F. Puppy Prep offer a discount to our small dog adopters if you want to take your dog for training at their terrific facility. And we usually have discount coupons on hand for some of our local retail partners to help you get started with your basic doggie supplies.
Our dogs are up to date on their shots and either spayed or neutered when you take them home, or we arrange for the spay or neuter shortly thereafter. Most of our dogs are also microchipped.
We currently have an urban shelter in San Francisco, but we also rely heavily on a network of foster homes. We always need volunteers and the opportunities are endless. We can accommodate almost any schedule or skill level and need everything from dog walkers and socializers to occasional drivers, helpers at our weekend events and both long and short term foster families. If you would like to volunteer with us, please fill out our volunteer application or contact us for more information!
