Umbrella of Hope 'Be Our Pet'

12 yr old, 4 lb Chihuahua SPAYED FEMALE for ADOPTION

Meet Miss May Day Bond. May Day is located with a rescue group in the SF Bay Area of CA and is adoptable to anyone willing to come to us to adopt her.

May Day is a 12 yr old, 4 lb Chihuahua SPAYED FEMALE who joins us from San Jose Animal Care Center via San Jose Animal Advocates where she was treated by Tails of a Shelter Vet

May Day has not known care or kindness in a really long time. Her mouth was SO horrific we could smell it from 5 feet away and the stench was enough to make seasoned veterinary professionals gag. Can you imagine what it was like for her?

Her dental disease was SO bad that it caused her jawbone to disintegrate from infection and disease. The pictures shown below are from intake where she still had teeth but she has since had ALL of her teeth removed and her lower jaw is floppy.

Post-surgery she seemed to be in LESS pain than she had been in before surgery. She is on wet food and will likely need this or softened food on an ongoing basis due not to lack of teeth (because if she could eat WITH those teeth, she could eat without them for sure) but because of her lack of a lower jaw. The good news is that she is now pain-free and she will never need future dental care.

She will be on pain meds and antibiotics for a few weeks but once she is finished with them she will have no ongoing medical issues requiring medication. She DOES have a cataract in her left eye but since she does not read or drive it should not be of concern or need treatment.

May Day has been (understandably) a little cranky, but we are pretty sure that it was due to the pain she was in with her dental disease. Since she is toothless, she is no danger to anyone but we feel she would do best in a home with older or very gentle children if not an adult-only home. She ignores other animals although she will use them as a heat source.

She likes to sleep, cuddle under blankets and has discovered a new love for yummy food (probably because it was so painful for her to eat before). She deserves a home where she will be treated like a princess on her terms for the rest of her life.

Adoptions to US Military Veterans are always free. Dogs aged 5+ can be adopted to people aged 55+ for $5. May Day is an honorary member of our #club14 and therefore can be adopted for $14. Application required and normal adoption criteria apply.

Umbrella of Hope is a non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals off death row from local shelters. We offer rebates of adoption fees after completion of obedience classes and CGC titles.

Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet. Some of our senior animals have sponsorships for their food/vet care/medicine for the rest of their life at our vet in Pittsburg, CA (94565)

Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.  Other retired public servants, please let us know what career you retired from and we can let you know if we offer any discounts for your adoption

Please send an email to the Umbrella Of Hope Animal Director with any inquiries at beourpet@gmail.com. Detailed emails will be answered first.

We thank Maddie's Fund for their sponsorship, Well Pet Vet Clinic for providing most of our veterinary services, Lovely Grooming for our grooming needs, and Delta Dog Camp for training. We thank Memoirs of a Dog and Share the Joy Photography for the beautiful portraits of many of our animals and a special thanks to volunteer photographers Barbara, Kristy, Christine and Natalie.  Please support these businesses for supporting rescue!
