This handsome boy is Junior! He would be happy in a household with or without other dogs. His ideal home will have humans around more often than not and will treat him like a (sometimes slobbery, no-sense-of-personal-space) king. Dog parks will not be Junior's favorite place since he is past his wrestle-and-tug years. He will make his new family smile every day.
Junior came to POMDR from the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. His microchip eventually led to the ex-partner of Junior's original guardian. From her, we learned that his original guardian had bred Junior from his two beloved family dogs and had brought Junior out from the East Coast to live with a family member in Santa Cruz.
That family member and the original guardian passed away within months of each other and for the past 2 years, Junior's life is a mystery. If only Junior could talk. In his own way, of course, Junior does. He has a deep baritone bark (reserved for squirrels and birds coming into the yard). He also sings a sad, lamenting song when dinner prep has gone on too long. He is very excited to greet his people. He will joyfully throw his weight around, so very small children or any creature with stability issues might not be the best match.
Junior's foster home includes 5 resident dogs, all females, 3 small and 2 medium, ranging from young adult to senior. Junior blended into the pack seamlessly. He does not want to play with other dogs but coexists beautifully. He was house-trained from the moment he walked through the door and has never had an accident. He sleeps happily on an oversized dog bed (despite being welcome in any of the human beds). In addition to his foster family, he loves food, his daily hike in the redwoods, snuggling on the couch, and every human he's ever met.
