And we say goodbye on the day we were to say hello :(

This was supposed to be a post to introduce you to our newest hospice puppy, Croi.

Croi joined us three weeks ago from San Jose Animal Care Center via San Jose Animal Advocates where she was treated by Tails of a Shelter Vet

Croi (pronounced CREE) is the Irish word for 'heart' and she was named that because her heart is what made her very special. She was a 2 month old Pit Bull Terrier Mix puppy who was wonderfully social and eager to please.

Croi had three different heart defects and the combination of them made her condition inoperable. Our veterinary team had guesstimated that she had 6-12 months depending on how well her heart responded to medication. We wanted to make the best of the time she had left and allow her to be a puppy and live in a home.

We thought of the lovely Brandt family who adopted 21 year old West Highland White Terrier, Percival, from us after he was dumped at the shelter when his family got a new puppy. He lived the rest of his life feeling love and being cherished by them and passed away at the age of 22.

They then adopted Cooper (who is a blind senior dog) from our friends at El Dorado County Animal Services South Lake Tahoe Shelter after they reached out to us when they were having trouble placing him in a home. He lives like a king with them :)

When we reached out to them to see if they were willing and able to take this sweet girl, they responded IMMEDIATELY and said they would and thanked US for thinking of them  We were so touched and so tickled at the same time and we were so happy for sweet Croi. She was going to a home and was going to have a full life where she was loved for as long as she stayed with us.

Croi went to live with Cooper and the Brandts other dog and spent the last two weeks being a part of a family. She frolicked and played and slept and had toys and treats and a warm indoor place to sleep and kid-time and a full belly.

Yesterday, Croi did not wake up in the morning. She had slipped away peacefully in her sleep sometime during the night. Her heart gave out.

We are so sad for the Brandts, but we are so grateful that Croi had a place to call home for the time she had.

Please send your love and good thoughts to the Brandts as they mourn their sweet girl.

Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5

Umbrella of Hope is a non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals off death row from local shelters. We offer rebates of adoption fees after completion of obedience classes and CGC titles.

Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet. Some of our senior animals have sponsorships for their food/vet care/medicine for the rest of their life at our vet in Pittsburg, CA (94565)

Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.  Other retired public servants, please let us know what career you retired from and we can let you know if we offer any discounts for your adoption
