Hi. I'm Diggy, a Senegal parrot. We Senegals come from the area near Senegal. (Of course, you guessed that!) I was with a family who just didn't understand my fears and couldn't seem to learn to help me. When I was about two years old, they left the door open and I went on an adventure. When I returned, I had become quite frightened and insecure. The outdoors can be very scary and dangerous for a basically friendly bird. They tried to help me but just didn’t have the skills. Eventually they surrendered me to my wonderful foster dad, a volunteer with Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue. He has been very kind and is helping me learn about loving people. Now I know how to step up and to come and take treats from him. Even his daughter has discovered how friendly I am.
But what I have learned most is that he really wants to be my “bud” and to make life good for me again. Now that I understand that, I can also return the favor. And I do. I try very hard to be a good bird, playing with him and even learning that humans can be very friendly and that they enjoy my company. And I’ve learned to go where he wants me (He calls that "targeting".)
I enjoy eating my regular food, but especially getting treats from my foster dad's hand. And I love getting "skritches" on the back of my head. I even lower my head to let people know what I want.
I will make a great companion for someone who can give me a forever home. Click here to contact my adoption coordinator to hear more about me!
