Description

Tuki here! I'm a very sweet, sometimes aggressively playful Meyers Parrot -- they think I'm a female -- and I'm looking for a place to call home. My previous owner was moving and didn't want to bring me along. He was going to have me euthanized because he thought that I walked with a limp, but Mickaboo came to rescue me!

Mickaboo's avian veterinarians say that I'm fine. I may have a slight curvature of my spine, which could have happened before I was born and which may affect my gait slightly. But I can climb, walk, fly and land quite gracefully and my foster dad says that I'm the fastest socked-foot chaser that he's ever seen.

I'm on a great diet and enjoy being around other birds in separate cages or together under human supervision for playtime. Sweeney the Senegal parrot and I are in the same foster home and have become friends. He sometimes just wants to be left alone, and I'm sometimes a bit too forward about wanting to preen and exchange food with him. Since we have such different backgrounds, we've learned a lot from each other, and I would like to have a bird friend like Sweeney in my new home if possible.

I do need to warn you about my "aggressively playful" side, though. Like many birds in the genus Poicephalus, I can be a handful sometimes. I love being petted and played with, and I'll purr like a kitten, make little clicking sounds or a curious "Hrm?" if you scratch my neck the right way. But, I sometimes get too excited when interacting with people and will bite fingers or clothing. My foster dad says that, as long as you keep your situational awareness up when working with me, I do fine, but I am a naturally playful bird and, for my genus, that can involve some beak activity. Plenty of supervised out-of-cage time, some supervised companionship with a similarly-sized bird and the right toys to keep me busy are also helpful.

I'm a very loving little bird, beak and all, and will love to go to a home where I can get a lot of attention and playtime with the right family. Click here to contact my adoption coordinator to hear more about me!
