Hi! I’m Goldie, a 30-year-old Blue and Gold macaw.
I was rescued from a bad situation about 11 years ago, and I have been in good care ever since. About 20 years ago, I had a mate and chick, and I lost both. Traumatized and stressed, I began aggressively plucking, and as you can see, my torso is pretty much bald now. But I’m still a gorgeous girl, according to my foster mom and her friends, and I have a shy, gentle, wonderful personality.
After Mickaboo rescued me 11 years ago, I was adopted into a wonderful home and lived there for 10 years. Unfortunately, my loving parents moved to a home with a wood-stove heater, and the smoke was bad for me. They reluctantly returned me to Mickaboo for my safety and I am hoping to find a new home with people who understand. I was terribly sad when I went to my new home, and I wouldn’t let anyone touch me without screaming like a frightened little girl. But after about a month, I realized my new foster mom understood me and loved me, and now I adore her too.
In my adoptive home, I was really bonded to my dad, but I tolerated mom. In my foster home, I bonded to my foster mom, and tolerate everyone else. I gently step up, preen mom’s eyebrows, lashes, and hair, sit beside her while she correctly papers and watches the Giants in the afternoons and evenings.
I just love to be around my human flock in the family room. I love walnuts and freeze-dried veggies, fresh carrots, broccoli, and apples, and – my favorite – walnuts in the shell, which my mom calls “Goldie crack” because I can’t get enough of them. I’m kind of a bony little thing, so mom lets me have extra.
If you think you have the time and room for someone like me, contact my species adoption coordinator. I’ll be your BFFF – best feathered friend forever.
